WASHINGTON (July 8, 2016) — Our prayers and thoughts are with the police officers and their families in Dallas who are grieving over the senseless death and injury of their loved ones and colleagues, and to police officers across the country who know and understand the pain experienced by these brave men and women.
Our law enforcement officers risk their lives each day as they strive to protect our safety, lives and property, Although our police officers are highly respected and admired by most Americans, a small but vocal segment of the population has taken it upon themselves to instigate distrust, hatred and, as of last night, mindless injury to these fine men and women who do so much to protect us and to allow us to live peacefully and safely.
Too often certain of our leaders and politicians, seeking some political advantage, disparage our police officers and encourage those who foment hatred and injury. If anything good can come from this terrible tragedy, it must be an end to the divisiveness and distrust that exists toward law enforcement in our nation to be replaced by unified and consistent support.
