To provide assistance to law enforcement
officers when it is necessary for them to defend actions taken in
the line of duty to enforce the law.
The Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund:

Provides financial support through supplementing
legal fees, and/or grants for subsistence.
|
|
|
|
Provides legal support by serving as co-counsel; locating counsel or providing research assistance and entering appearances as Amicus Curiae.
|
|
|
|
Educates the public, the media, educational institutions, and governmental bodies regarding the role of law enforcement officers in keeping the peace and in maintaining public confidence in governmental institutions thereby encouraging and promoting respect for the law enforcement community.

|
|
|
Encourages counselling and education for youth in the role and functions of the law enforcement officer in improving public safety and promoting public welfare.
|
|
|
|
Promotes understanding of the role of law enforcement officers and the criminal justice process through publications, public discussion groups, open debate, and awareness efforts such as advertising, public relations and other means so as to improve the welfare of the public and to benefit the community as a whole.

|
|
|
Encourages charitable, educational and scientific activity that has a purpose consistent with those of the LELDF.
|
|
|
|
Conducts or presents studies, research, statistical surveys or other information to government agencies, and through public discussions and group discussions and public relations furthers the purposes of the corporation, the common good, and social welfare. |
