BALTIMORE (WBFF) -- As Baltimore remains a City In Crisis, criminals don't seem to care that they're being watched by the ever growing presence of police cameras across the city.

Tuesday night, a man was shot and killed along N. Rose Street in East Baltimore right between two Citiwatch cameras.

Baltimore Police also recently released surveillance video of a shooting from September 3rd where two men opened fire along E. Chase Street killing a man in his 50's.

Brazenness in plain view of police.

"It does not have the deterrent effect that you'd think it would," Operation Crime and Justice contributor and former Deputy Baltimore Police Commissioner Jason Johnson told FOX45 News. "I think there's a presumption among many folks who would do that that they'll get away with it."

But with nearly 750 Citiwatch cameras on street corners and buildings in every section of the city, BPD hopes some people will get caught.

While the department couldn't tell FOX45 News Wednesday how many crimes have been solved by Citiwatch cameras this year, they did they say the video they receive is influential in investigations.

"The Baltimore Police Department utilizes every resource at our disposal to investigate incidents and solve cases," a spokesperson told FOX45 News.

But as violence continues across the City in Crisis, some wonder if the cameras don't deter criminals then what will.

"The brazenness and the callousness of what's going on, on the streets, not only in Baltimore but cities across America, is disturbing," Johnson said.
